{"id":5885,"date":"2013-02-02T18:04:23","date_gmt":"2013-02-03T02:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=5885"},"modified":"2015-07-03T02:45:31","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T10:45:31","slug":"farewell-to-my-lj-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=5885","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to my LJ Friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\">LiveJournal<\/a> has again broken its support for <a href=\"http:\/\/openid.net\/\">OpenID<\/a>, I am again locked-out of reading <code>Friends<\/code>-only entries.<\/p> <p>This time, instead of struggling to find a work-around (while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\"><abbr title=\"LiveJournal\">LJ<\/abbr><\/a> <q>support<\/q> team does nothing but collect information which will be ignored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\"><abbr title=\"LiveJournal\">LJ<\/abbr><\/a> programmers, and then eventually expresses regrets at the lack of action), I am simply done with it.  I won't be reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\"><abbr title=\"LiveJournal\">LJ<\/abbr><\/a> entries.<\/p> <p>I won't even bother with the more public entries at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\">LiveJournal<\/a>.  If there's something that my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\"><abbr title=\"LiveJournal\">LJ<\/abbr><\/a> <code>Friends<\/code> want me to read, then it will have to be written elsewhere.<\/p> <p>I am presently undecided as to whether I'm willing to <em>enable<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\">LiveJournal<\/a> to the extent of allowing it to continue to access my <abbr title=\"Rich Site Summary\">RSS<\/abbr> feed.  If you find that entries from this &#39;blog stop appearing on your <code>Friends<\/code> pages, then you might check as to whether that's simply because the &#39;blog has become quiescent, or because I've blocked the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\"><abbr title=\"LiveJournal\">LJ<\/abbr><\/a> server.<\/p> <p><span style=\"font-weight: bolder ;\">&#91;Addendum<\/span> (2013:02\/06)<span style=\"font-weight: bolder ;\">:<\/span> I am informed that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/\">LiveJournal<\/a>'s alleged feed of this &#39;blog hasn't delivered any of the entries from this year anyway, so the question of whether to <em>permit<\/em> it to do so might perhaps be put aside.<span style=\"font-weight: bolder ;\">&#93;<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Because LiveJournal has again broken its support for OpenID, I am again locked-out of reading Friends-only entries.
