{"id":170,"date":"2008-06-21T13:37:46","date_gmt":"2008-06-21T21:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=170"},"modified":"2009-09-23T20:34:34","modified_gmt":"2009-09-24T04:34:34","slug":"geek-hide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=170","title":{"rendered":"Geek Hide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have received the following from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">the Better Business Bureau<\/a> concerning my complaint against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekavailable.com\/\">GeekAvailable<\/a> (underscore mine): <blockquote>The Bureau has decided to close this complaint and consider it unresolved.  You have indicated that the company's response to the complaint does not settle the matter, and <u>the BBB has determined that the company's response does not adequately address all the issues or make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute.<\/u><\/blockquote> When I told Rod Pereira that I would go through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">the <abbr title=\"Better Business Bureau\">BBB<\/abbr><\/a> <em>first<\/em>, rather than court, because it would <q>take more out of your hide<\/q>, <em>this<\/em> outcome was what I had in mind.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">The <abbr title=\"Better Business Bureau\">BBB<\/abbr><\/a> won't take a case if it has already been taken to court or to a government agency; so Pereira's record with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">the <abbr title=\"Better Business Bureau\">BBB<\/abbr><\/a> would have remained as it had been (one resolved complaint).  But I can still exercise either one (or both) of those options after an unsatisfactory attempt at resolution through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">the <abbr title=\"Better Business Bureau\">BBB<\/abbr><\/a>; and now <a href=\"http:\/\/sandiego.bbb.org\/WWWRoot\/Report.aspx?site=26&bbb=1186&firm=23003700\">Pereira's record there<\/a> reflects his bad faith behavior.<\/p> <p>Of course, Pereira could have minimized the loss to his hide by refunding the <q>evalutation<\/q> fee and offering some compromise on the other costs (enough to satisfy the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\">the <abbr title=\"Better Business Bureau\">BBB<\/abbr><\/a>, rather than me), but I had a feeling that he'd let adolescent <span style=\"font-style: italic ;\">machismo<\/span> get the better of him.<\/p> <p>I am now waiting on billing records from a credit card issuer, then I will take Pereira to court.
