{"id":11257,"date":"2020-04-08T22:45:59","date_gmt":"2020-04-09T05:45:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=11257"},"modified":"2024-03-14T00:41:53","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T07:41:53","slug":"a-translation-of-voigts-zahl-und-mass-in-der-konomik","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeconomist.com\/blogs\/daniel\/?p=11257","title":{"rendered":"A Translation of Voigt's <cite>Zahl und Mass in der &Ouml;konomik<\/cite>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"?p=5879\">In early 2013, I made freely available<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.praxiologic.com\/economics\/papers\/zahl_und_mass.pdf\">a transcription of <cite>Zahl und Mass in der &Ouml;konomik: Eine kritische Untersuchung der mathematischen Methode und der mathematischen Preistheorie<\/cite> (1893) by Andreas Heinrich Voigt<\/a><a href=\"?p=5879\">.<\/a>  I have to-day completed <strong><em><u>a first pass<\/u><\/em><\/strong> of <a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Number_and_Measure.pdf\">a translation of this as <cite>Number and Measure in Economics: A Critical Examination of Mathematical Method and of Mathematical Price Theory<\/cite><\/a>.  Although I believe that there are many errors to be corrected in that translation, I am making it available.  I do not plan to use a different <abbr title=\"uniform resource identifier\">URI<\/abbr> for corrected versions.<\/p> <p>I have been very disappointed by my reading of Voigt's article.  I regard it as containing more error than insight.<\/p> <p>In the course of translation, I found and corrected extremely minor errors in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.praxiologic.com\/economics\/papers\/zahl_und_mass.pdf\">the transcription of the original<\/a>.  A name was at one point misspelled by me, and I failed to capitalize a word beginning a sentence.  I also marked a <q>die die<\/q> as questionable which I've since concluded was deliberate.  I do not believe that anyone could have been led to a mistaken reading as a result of those errors, but I have naturally corrected them.<\/p> <p>I may change the <abbr title=\"uniform resource identifier\">URI<\/abbr> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.praxiologic.com\/economics\/papers\/zahl_und_mass.pdf\">the transcription<\/a>, moving it from another domain to place it amongst the uploads for this &#39;blog.
